Affirmation

He likes my blog. I have to say I'm surprised, but Reese likes my blog! It's a surprise because Reese usually doesn't get internet stuff. He doesn't really understand the fascination with facebook, twitter, blogs, flickr, forums, picnik, online browsing, and the like. Give him 15 minutes to check his stock quotes and fantasy football stats and he's done. The other day, he was so bored, he asked me, "So, what exactly do you do all the time online?" I gave him about 10 suggestions and he didn't really like any of them, so he shut his laptop off and read a book. But he likes my blog.

He thinks my blog is funny. He thinks my blog is well written. He has even, on occasion, been known to read parts of my blog out loud to nurses and random people.

If Reese ever started a blog, which I know he wouldn't, I would like it too. I would bookmark it, check it every day, add it to my Google Reader, and even leave him comments about how awesome he is. He is the funniest, most true person I know and he has a great vocabulary to boot. Alas, I'll have to blog for both of us.

In other news, the hair all came out today. It was starting to come out in little tufts and covering his pillow every morning, so it was time to deal with it once and for all. He scrubbed most of it out in the shower, then took the Timblins' clippers to it, and finally shaved the rest. He has a really nicely shaped head, I have to say - no big bumps, ridges, or freckles. Bye bye hair, see you in July.

  1. I don't really always get the Internet thing either; but I must say, I like your blog too... I have it bookmarked and I have been checking it everyday! :) In the midst of a hard thing, it helps me feel "close" to you and to Reese.

  2. Okay... you are going to laugh. I just started my own blog. Why not? Dave is sitting here, laughing at me and saying, "I can't believe you started a blog!". I just laugh at him and say, "I can't believe you are on facebook!". You have inspired me, Cara :)

  3. I agree, it helps me a LOT to write it. I feel closer to everyone, knowing they're reading it and experiencing it with us. I LOVE your blog! Everyone, check it out by clicking on Stephanie's name about her comment :)

  4. Bald is beautiful! Barry started losing his hair at age 17, but I LOVE his bald head. Just let Reese know that kids might come up to him and ask if they can touch his head. Barry gets that all the time. It's pretty cute :) You guys are awesome and we're praying for you.

  6. I haven't commented in writing yet, but I LOVE your blog, too! Cara, your humor in the midst of this trial, your solid faith, and your ability to see what God is doing in all of this is an inspiration. I love keeping up via your blog (plus phone calls. :)) I don't get the general blog thing, but I'm actually thinking about opening a facebook account!

  7. Cara, your blog is great! I love how you can maintain your humor and sparkle in the face of all this. Reese is a lucky guy :-) And I bet bald looks good on him.

  8. When Frank lost his hair I lost it. While it was just hair, it was a visible reminder of what he was going through.

Recently he had a hair cut that was SUPER short. It reminded me of what he looked like during and immediately after treatments. Before TC he wore his hair longer than buzz cuts, it's not thick enough now to wear it as long as he used to. That being said, I hated the buzz cut and since then he's had to go to the baber twice as often to keep it longer for me. It's the little things that mean a lot.

On a lighter note, we found that some hair did grow back during treatments and after being shaved off, but it wasn't very stable. It wouldn't just fall out, but we would find it on the pillow, our sheets, etc. and that was just gross so we used Nair wax strips on his head! (it didn't hurt like it would if I did it to him now) And then after a while we'd just take a lint roller to his scalp. Instead of brushing hair we'd roll his head!

    Hang in there.

  9. Sarah -- thanks so much for reading my blog! I've poured over yours and learned so much through what you've shared. If I do the lint-roller thing on Reese (1) He will not be happy and (2) I promise to take pictures! He's hoping the hair will all grow back brown instead of the ever-increasing gray, but I think it's a bit optimistic.
